I dye my hair a lot-- I naturally have medium ash-brown hair, and I've dyed it all shades of reddish and darker brown. I'd like to dye it again, since it's been quite a while since my last coloring, but I'm worried about the effects of chlorine on my hair color. I work teaching swimming lessons, so I'm in the pool for about six hours a day (though I'm not submerged too often), and I'm not sure how the pool water and/or my chlorine-removing shampoo would affect the dye job.
Any recommendations for types of dyes? Temp or permanent? Do bleach-based lighteners hold up better? Any advice/experience would be appreciated!
What kind of hair dye fades least in a swimming pool?
First, the dye needs to be permanent. I find Nice and Easy
for covering Gray in permanent color easy to use and maintain. Tips to help with any dye:
1) Rinse hair immediately
2) Be sure to use a hydrating/ moisturizing shampoo and alternate with a color enhancing shampoo
3) Use plenty of conditioner every day after rinsing and after washing
4) Also, call the manufacturer number on the box and ask if there is anything else you can do to avoid premature color fade, dryness, and the green tinge chlorine can bring to even brunette hair.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

remember that lighter shades like blond turn GREEN in the chlorine. the best way to keep your color is wet your hair in a sink or shower and use a leave in conditioner before you get into the water and wear (I know it's ugly) A Swim cap.
